Christie’s Interiors Department presents the newly re-launched Open House Sale, which will take place on July 16.

The sale encompasses 173 lots from world renowned artists including Ruth Asawa, Sol LeWitt, Louise Lawler, Victor Vasarely, Andy Warhol, Gerhard Richter, John Baldessari, Jules Olitski and Cindy Sherman. Estimates start at $1,000, and with many of the works coming from distinguished institutions including the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, this sale presents a rare opportunity for collectors to obtain well-priced works of distinguished provenance.
The Open House Sale is expected to realize in excess of $1.5 million, and will complement the July 17 Interiors sale, which incorporates an additional selection of over 200 works of contemporary works of art.
Leading the sale, is Ruth Asawa’s Untitled, (S.073 Hanging Single Sphere, Five Layer Continuous Form within a Form), 1962 (estimate: $100,000-150,000) – pictured right, which was included in the artist’s 1973 traveling retrospective that was exhibited at institutions including the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. Methodically woven by hand, Untitled exists essentially as a drawing in space, an intertwining network of copper wire producing an enigmatic form that is equally surprising and awe inspiring.
The sale will also represent select works from the Estate of David Pincus, including Jonathan Borofsky’s widely exhibited I Dreamed that a Man in a Tower was being Shot at (2,307,327) (estimate $8,000-12,000) and a selection of works by Andreas Serrano. The Pincus Collection was introduced to the auction market at Christie’s New York this past May, when a portion of its works realized a total of $180 million, setting the world auction record for the most valuable collection of Post-War & Contemporary Art ever sold.
