Bonhams auctioneers announce partnership with the Endurance Rally Association

Bonhams has announced a new partnership with the foremost organisers of classic car rallies internationally, the Endurance Rally Association.

Established in 1987, the Oxfordshire-based ERA is one of the longest-established and most experienced organisers of international rallies in the world. It has held more than 60 events over the past 25 years, in more than 50 countries. Past events include the legendary Peking to Paris Motor Challenge that will run again in 2013, The Vintage Flying Scotsman now in its fifth year and the classic Safari Challenge that will run for the fifth time in 2014. Other long distance rallies have been successfully completed in Africa, America, Canada, China and Europe.
Philip Young, ERA founder and rally director, said: “I am delighted at the news of this partnership. The ERA desk at the Bonhams auction at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in June was besieged with interested classic and vintage car owners seeking fresh adventures, and we see this link-up as a great opportunity to offer to Bonhams clients the chance to drive these cars in the way they were intended ? down truly empty roads, exploring the most wonderful terrain.”

Tim Schofield, Director of the Bonhams UK Motor Car Department, took part in the ERA’s Flying Scotsman rally in April with department specialist Sholto Gilbertson. He said: “We are delighted to be supporting the Endurance Rally Association. We have experienced first-hand what a great job they do in putting on these events, and we are delighted to partner Philip and his team. The ERA is proven to organise the most intrepid events in the rallying calendar and we look forward to many future successes together.”

Alongside its remarkable catalogue of events, the ERA is responsible for some widely-acclaimed initiatives now adopted by the rally world. As well as being responsible for the inception of the historic rally movement in the 1980s, it instigated the all-new Endurance Rallying scene to encourage the trend to smaller and more fuel-efficient cars.
