With 2013 marking the 60th Anniversary of “America’s Sports Car” and the debut of its seventh-generation models, we are extremely pleased to offer an outstanding example from the Corvette’s landmark introductory year at our upcoming Newport Beach auction, which is set to take place on June 20 – 22.
Groundbreaking in every respect from its concept to design and production, the original Corvette of 1953 remains notable as one of the few GM Motorama-era designs to reach production with their basic space-age, show-car styling elements virtually unchanged. Representing a major leap of faith on the part of GM’s top brass, the Corvette captivated America’s imagination but was in fact a brave gamble that almost failed. However, thanks to staunch corporate support, the Corvette was tirelessly developed, improved, and carefully refined by legends into a six-decade success story that shows no signs of fading away.
The wonderful first-year example we are proud to offer at Newport Beach is the 83rd of the 300 Corvettes produced for 1953 and one of the estimated 225 survivors remaining today. Now showing just over 4,300 miles, which are believed actual, it has never been restored and as such, Corvette #83 provides an irreplaceable benchmark for Corvette collectors and enthusiasts. A Blue Ribbon Award Winner at the Musclecar and Corvette Nationals, the Corvette was formerly part of the noted automobile collection of the highly popular Grammy-winning singer/songwriter, Alan Jackson. A highly collectible and desirable touchstone to the Corvette’s earliest roots and highly original, this particular 1953 Corvette is certainly in a class all by itself and deserving of serious consideration.
