Five paintings by the world renowned Scottish colourist Samuel Peploe made just short of £1,000,0000 at Bonhams Scottish Art sale in Edinburgh on 17 April.
Also by Peploe, Crawford sold for £73,250 and A Summer Afternoon, Iona for £61,250.
Bonhams Head of Scottish Art, Chris Brickley, said, “The results for Peploe and the very good prices for the other Colourist painters in the sale show the continuing appeal of these artists whose work has made such an important contribution to the standing of Scottish painting both at home and round the world.”
Other highlights of the sale include Joseph Farquharson’s ‘The Shortening Winter’s Day is near a Close’ which made £157,250 against an estimate of £60,000-80,000 and a view of Iona by Francis Cadell which sold for £91,000.
