BOXES OF DELIGHT FOR RICHARD WINTERTON AUCTION 21 NOVEMBER

A number of fine antique dressing boxes, (the property of a private collector) have been sold at Richard Winterton Auctioneers of Lichfield in recent months. Two boxes by Asprey of London have already totalled over £10,000, (beating auction records for comparable boxes sold in London and elsewhere in the UK). Two further boxes of equal quality have been consigned to the 21st November Sale.

William IV box
On offer this time are two exceptional William IV boxes. One is coromandel and fully fitted with original contents of silver gilt and pierced lidded cosmetic jars hallmarked for London 1836. Bearing manufacturer’s label of Dalton, London and locks stamped Mordan it is estimated at £4,000-5,000.

The other is a slightly earlier and larger box in rosewood with silver mounted gothic glass cosmetic jars and accessories hallmarked for 1833, (including a tea canister) each with matching coronet surmounted owner’s monogram. It is estimated to fetch £4,000-5,000.
