On Friday, August 1st beginning at 9:00 am, over 1100 lots will cross the block in Garth’s August Eclectic sale. Bidders can stay cool inside as Garth’s presents a wide array of items including a quality collection of Ohio pottery, sterling silver, original artwork, wooden primitives, contemporary furniture, cast iron fire trucks, Currier & Ives, various textiles and more.
An Ohio institution, Weller Pottery was founded in 1872 by Samuel Weller in Fultonham, Ohio. The original business consisted of a small cabin and one kiln until 1882 when the company moved to Zanesville, Ohio. Soon after the move, Weller approached Sicard to develop a new more contemporary line and according to the archives, Sicard agreed if his assistant, Henri Gellie could be added to the team as well. Those who know pottery would agree that it was a deal worth making, as the two produced what most believe is the creme de la creme within the Weller Pottery collection. Next Friday, several Sicard Weller Vases are sure to turn bidder’s heads when they cross the block at Garth’s. The first Vase includes hues of brown with a striking high gloss finish and a compelling shape featuring a slightly twisted and folded rim with floral decoration.
