ATLANTA, Ga. – Marvelous examples of mid-19th century American furniture by renowned makers such as Prudent Mallard and J. & J.W. Meeks, plus equally impressive pieces of 19th century French furniture, are just a few of the many items that will come up for bid at Ahlers & Ogletree’s Fall Estates Auction, slated for Oct. 4th -5th, starting at 11 a.m. Eastern time both days.
The event will be held at Ahlers & Ogletree’s gallery, located at 715 Miami Circle (Suite 210) in Atlanta. More than 1,000 quality, mostly fresh-to-the-market lots will cross the auction block, in a wide array of categories. Doors will open at 10 a.m. on both days, with previews at the gallery from Wednesday to Friday (Oct. 1-3) from 10-6. The Thursday preview will extend until 9 p.m.
In addition to American and French furniture, the sale will also feature a collection of antique Persian rugs, watches and other estate jewelry, landscape paintings by noted Austrian artists, scientific objects in excellent condition, sterling silver, Flora Danica china, decorative objects and a great selection of items from private collections out of Florida, Atlanta and St. Louis, Mo.
The 19th century French furniture will be highlighted by a finely matched pair of Louis XV-style ormolu mounted and marquetry inlaid jardinière tables, finely inlaid with scrolling foliages and arabesques in the manner of Joseph Zwiener and Francois Linke; and a Louis XVI-style ormolu mounted and marquetry inlaid bureau a cylinder (curved front desk) on gilt bronze turned feet.

Also from Mallard is a carved rosewood canopied half tester bed.
A very fine American rococo carve and laminated rosewood étagère, made circa 1860 by J. & J.W. Meeks, with carved scrolled foliate and floral and arabesque accented crest at the top, above an arched mirror back, will be sold. Also offered will be an important American Federal Revival tall chest, made circa 1900, with provenance linking it to the Bouvier family (Jackie Kennedy).
Watches will include a dazzling ladies’ 14kt rose gold, ruby, diamond and aquamarine Art Deco-style bracelet watch from a private collection out of Dahlonega, Ga., with 17-jewel movement (GIA color grade I/J, clarity grade VS1/VS2); and a Tiffany & Co. Mark Coupe gent’s stainless steel bracelet watch (ser. #030231432) with quartz movement and sweep second hand and date.
Also from the estate jewelry category will be a circa-1960 Van Cleef & Arpels 18kt yellow gold, turquoise, ruby and diamond “Chick” brooch (or pin) presented as a stylized chick with enlarged head perched on a branch; and a ladies’ 14kt yellow gold hand-fabricated, collar-style choker necklace featuring an oval-cut 17-carat purple amethyst, plus diamonds, pearls and other stones.
Original landscape renderings by Austrian artists will include an oil on canvas by Switbert Lobisser (1878-1943), titled Spring in Pinzgau, Austria, signed lower right and measuring 24 inches by 28 ½ inches (framed); and an oil on wood panel by Carl Hasch (1834-1897), titled A Hunter in the High Mountains, artist monogrammed, 18 ½ inches by 15 ¾ inches in the frame.
Still another Austrian landscape is an oil on wood panel by Josef Thoma (1828-1899), titled Hunter at the Waterfall, signed lower left and measuring 32 ¼ inches by 26 inches, framed. All three works depict figures in a field or forest setting. Also sold will be a charming full-length 19th century American School portrait painting titled Portrait of Young Girl in White, unsigned.
Decorative accessories will feature a circa-1950 figural bikini Fenicio vase by the Italian artist Fulvio Bianconi (1915-1996), 14 ½ inches tall, produced for Venini by Bianconi, the most successful designer of the Golden Age of Italian Glass (1946-1969); and a set of eight Royal Copenhagen Flora Danica pattern soup bowls with gilt accented rums and hand-painted flowers.
A 101-piece set of Tiffany& Company sterling flatware in the “Florentine” pattern, designed and patented in 1900, totaling approximately 171 troy ounces, will come under the gavel, as will a pair of circa-1800 period bronze American Federal andirons with double lemon finials above octagonal shafts, with spurred scrolls on legs terminating on pad feet and iron supports on back.
