Archie Crippen Classic Trucks go to Auction

The remaining classic trucks and equipment of the long standing Archie Crippen Excavating Company in Fresno, CA will be auctioned off to the public next Tuesday, July 14th.. It is widely known that Archie had a lifelong love affair with restoring old trucks and cars, as is evidenced by the large quantity of reconditioned trucks, antique truck bodies and chassis he left behind. According to Richard Reese, President of Rabin Worldwide Auctioneers, “Archie granted each family member one truck of there choice in his will when he passed away, but there are still many left.” He was a member of both the Antique Truck Historical Society and the Antique Truck Club of America. According to his daughter, Margaret Humphrey, “He could look at something everyone thought was a piece of junk and see the potential in it right down to the nuts and bolts. All the trucks in his barn have a story to tell.”

Some items included in the sale are reconditioned classics such as tandem-axle Sterlings, Diamond Ts, Macks and Internationals featuring a very rare 1953 White Sterling cab over, 1950 Diamond T nicknamed ‘Big Red’ by Archie, a 1935 Sterling heavy duty fully detailed house mover with winch, and an International West Coast High Mount truck tractor. One of the main features of the sale is a 1926 Fageol Motors 2-axle truck currently in the final stages of assembly before Archie’s untimely passing. Archie’s love for antiques and classics also include a disassembled 1936 Buick Special waiting for paint, plus nearly two dozen 1920 vintage truck bodies and frames in need of some tender loving care. Plus a fully reconditioned 1979 MCI RV 3-axle bus used twice by Archie since completion, Studebaker Silver Hawk and bullet nose 2-door sedans, plus heavy machinery used in his excavating business and a variety of parts and attachments.
