Ocean Tomo to Sell Internet Citation Processing Patent at Live IP Auction on April 2nd in San Francisco; Reasonable Asking Price Provides Rare and Affordable Acquisition Opportunity

SAN FRANCISCO – Ocean Tomo Auctions today announced it will offer for sale U.S. Patent No. 6,665,659, relevant to internet citation processing technology, as Lot 12B in the Information Management & Data Systems category at the Ocean Tomo Spring 2008 Live IP Auction. The patent will be put on the auction block on April 2nd at The Ritz-Carlton in San Francisco.

Technology disclosed in the ‘659 patent relates to systems for using both server-side and client-side processing of internet content citations. The patented technology retrieves and organizes citations to Web content such as music, videos, playlists, podcasts, and news feeds. The technology reduces the time and effort needed to locate media content of interest offered by online music and video stores and by syndicated news, media and podcast sources by downloading and processing media citations on the user’s computer.

“We are excited to be putting this patent up for auction with Ocean Tomo. It’s a fundamental technology that enhances applications ranging from music stores that work with related jukebox software to RSS readers that work off-line as well as on-line,” said James Logan, inventor of the ‘659 patent.

Offered at a reasonable asking price, with the published expected value listed at $100,000, the Lot stands out as a valuable investment for acquirers with interest in technologies relating to online digital content.

“Given the range of the asking price and the broad applicability of the technology, this Lot provides an extremely attractive acquisition opportunity and should receive the attention of a number of potential bidders,” said Andrew T. Ramer, President of Ocean Tomo Auctions.

The patent is directed to operations that are performed at both a server and a client to produce, process, transmit and utilize collections of citations which often take the form of XML markup files such as digital media playlists, newsfeeds, and podcasts containing citations that include the URL of an internet content resource (such as a Web page, an audio file, a video file, etc.) together with metadata describing that content.
