The State of Illinois auctions off nearly 100 vehicles online this weekend

Springfield – Bidders from all over the country can log-on this weekend to find a bargain vehicle from the State of Illinois. 93 vehicles from the State’s fleet, police cruisers and confiscated vehicles will be auctioned off online and in real-time Saturday, March 29 beginning at 9 a.m.. The event is part of the Department of Central Management Services’ (CMS) ongoing effort to raise revenues by selling items no longer needed by the State.

A large variety of vehicles will be auctioned including Dodge vans, Ford Taurus sedans and pick-up trucks. Bidders must look closely at all the photos and descriptions as the vehicles are sold “as-is”. Bidders can check out the vehicles now at, but in order to make a bid you must register with a valid driver’s license and credit card.

“The success of the state’s first on-line auction system, iBid ( has proven that surplus sales across the internet continue to result in higher returns for the State’s surplus property,” said Acting CMS Director Maureen T. O’Donnell. “Selling vehicles in a live internet auction from the warehouse parking lot is the next step in this evolution.”

CMS still accepts bids from the State Surplus Property Warehouse, 1924 South 10 ½ Street in Springfield. Registration opens at 7 a.m. As required with online, bidders must register with a valid driver’s license and credit card. CMS also takes cash, cashiers’ checks, money orders, travelers checks, Visa and MasterCard. Personal or business checks will not be accepted unless accompanied by a formal bank letter guaranteeing payment.

In addition to the online vehicle auction, CMS is also taking the surplus property auction online. The next live online auction is set for April 16 at 9 a.m.
