From an early 1900’s horseless carriage built by the McLaughlin Carriage Company, to a special 2007 Hertz Edition Shelby Cobra, the annual ‘Classic Car Auction of Toronto’ drew thousands of car enthusiasts to the traditional Spring event at Mississauga’s International Centre, April 4th, 5th and 6th.
CHATHAM, Ontario, Canada – Canada’s rich automotive history was showcased last weekend as RM’s Classic Car Auction of Toronto returned to the International Centre in Mississauga – the largest event of its kind in the country.
The annual three-day auction event featured several historic and significant examples of motoring history from 1900 to 2000. Overall attendance was up 20% on previous years, with many buyers coming from the US.
“Our Spring event has always been the kick-off to the classic car season in Canada,” said RM veteran, Dan Spendick.
“It was great to see many new buyers this year, which is a sign that interest in the hobby is growing. The sales reflected this trend as many cars changed hands,” he added.
In addition to strong attendance, interest levels for the “high-end” cars was also up on previous years, and saw plenty of action with five cars breaking the six-figure mark. Some of the highlights included: a 1997 Porsche 993 Twin-Turbo “S” Coupe, which brought $162,800; a 1967 Chevrolet Corvette 427 Roadster, which drew a final bid of $162,250; an ultra-rare 1956 Monarch Convertible, which sold for $123,750; and a 1989 Lamborghini Countach 25th Anniversary, which achieved $121,000.
RM will head to Texas next week for the esteemed Wayne Davis Collection, followed by a much-anticipated return to Maranello, Italy next month for the historic Ferrari: Leggenda e Passione auction event.
