Famed Ortiz “Yankee Curse” Jersey up for Bid on eBay

BOSTON – The now famous David Ortiz replica Red Sox jersey that was chipped from beneath two feet of cement in the new Yankee Stadium is available for auction on eBay. The auction will benefit the Jimmy Fund, which supports adult and pediatric cancer care and research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston.

The auction will run for seven days until Thursday Apr. 24, 12:30 pm ET. The online auction address is www.jimmyfund.org/jersey.

The jersey was placed in wet cement during the construction of the new stadium by a construction worker and an ardent Red Sox fan who hoped to curse the Yankees. The Yankees learned about the shirt, dug it up and donated it to the Jimmy Fund.

“We want to thank the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox for their ongoing support of the Jimmy Fund and the work we do,” said Mike Andrews, chairman of the Jimmy Fund and former Red Sox second baseman. “When it comes to cancer, we’re all on the same team.”

The Jimmy Fund www.jimmyfund.org) supports the fight against cancer at Boston’s Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, helping to raise the chances of survival for children and adults with cancer around the world.
