Inaugural Russian Fine Art Auction by Heritage Auction Galleries

Dallas, TX – Heritage Auction Galleries, the world’s third largest auction house, is holding its first Russian fine art auction at its new fine art galleries located in Dallas’ Design District on June 4, 2008. Among the master Russian artists featured at the auction will be Mikhail Konstantinovich Klodt, Nikolai Timkov, Konstantin Makovsky, David Burliuk, Konstantin Yuon and Ivan Kliun. Over 100 years of Russian art will be included in the auction gathered from some of the world’s most discerning collectors, including a private US collector who acquired Russian and other paintings over the course of 25 years.

The Klodt masterpiece, Riverside Farmstead, is an homage to his home town of Segerolda (Sigulda) and a strikingly realistic landscape at 41 1/2 x 61 inches. Klodt was one of the founders of the ‘Wanderers’ movement that dramatically changed Russian art in the 19th century. The oil on canvas is expected to realize well over $1 million at the auction.

Works by Nokolai Timkov include his beautiful Rostov in Winter, a bright and colorful 56-inch painting of the Rostov Kremlin (estimate $200,000 to $300,000) which headlines a collection from Kenneth Pushkin. From colorful works by Alexandre Altmann and Constantin Korovine, the auction will feature the work of contemporary Russian artists such as Igor Tulipanov’s striking Flight of the Butterfly (estimate $20,000 to $30,000).

Heritage’s inaugural auction of Russian fine art follows their sale of Ivan Konstantinovich Aivazovsky’s remarkable Pushkin at the Water’s Edge which they sold in Dallas last October for a total of $1.6 million. With many noted Russian artists’ works in this sale estimated at well over $200,000 each, this auction promises to set records for American-owned auction houses that are entering the exciting Russian fine art market.
