Vectis Toy Auction May 12 – 14

The three day May auction has a good cross section of diecast, tinplate and plastic toys. Including several high quality private owner collections.

A small but selective section of Dinky Gift sets feature on day one several of which are rare or export issues. Pre sale estimates range from £400 – £500 up to £3400 – £4400 for the Dinky No.3 Gift Set “Passenger Cars”. There is an excellent section of Spot-On Commercial Vehicles and Gift Sets, with lot 286 No.161 Land Rover Long Wheelbase, rare promotional issue, featuring on the front of the catalogue and Lot 374 – set No.3 – being one of the best Spot-On Presentation sets we have ever seen.

Day two starts with tinplate and plastic, large and small scale models featuring the Scottish Collection. Approximately 60 lots of nice quality, very unusual, vintage motorcycles, cars, horseless carriages, the majority of which are clockwork. Lot 1228 a Lehmann No.520 Li-La Hansom Cab dates from 1903-1935 period. Lehmann was known to model the characters, within the toys, of people he knew and in this case the two figures are believed to be based on his sisters. The clockwork operation drives the vehicle erratically, one sister raises arms, the other frantically raises the umbrella and the dog’s head turns – the first of its kind we have had.

There are over 100 lots of Triang and other Toy Catalogues, pre-war through to the 1960s/70s many of which were dealer’s trade catalogues and not generally available to the public. Showing a range of toys from Airfix, Minic Motorways, Pedal Cars, Dolls, Teddy Bears, Dolls Houses, Forts etc.

Day two also includes excellent sections of Sutcliffe Models, Subbuteo, TV and Film Related and Dinky Aircraft from Part I of the The New Jersey Collection, a good overall range both pre and post war.

Day three is taken up by The New Jersey Collection Part II. A collection of high quality Dinky toys with several hard to find issues. Lot 2204 No.274 Mason Paints Mini Van, a promotional model for Joseph Mason Paints, in Near Mint condition and includes the promotional red box with advertising card and packing piece – a superb example.

Nicky Toys attract a good following and the sale includes a small section of 35 lots, the majority in Near Mint condition. Lot 2448 is an unusual model – based on the real Standard Herald Mark II which was made for the Indian market and was a combination of the British Triumph Herald with Triumph Vitesse front bonnet. As a result Nicky Toys produced this model as a standard Herald Mk II, utilising the casting for No.154 Triumph Vitesse. Lot 2448 is in the scarce colour variation of cream including interior.

Overall a good varied sale starting each day at 1.00pm (British time) on-line in association with liveauctioneers.com and ebayliveauctions.com
