Todd Hignite Joins Heritage Auction Galleries

Dallas, TX – Heritage Auction Galleries announced today that comic art expert Todd Hignite has joined the Dallas-based firm as a Consignment Director.

“Todd is going to be a ‘triple-threat’ for us,” said Ed Jaster, Vice President of Heritage. “Students of comic art undoubtedly know about Todd’s expertise in that field, but he is also going to play a major role in our Illustration Art auctions, and his knowledge of Contemporary Art will be an asset for Heritage as well.”

Hignite is the founder and editor of the critically lauded publication Comic Art (Buenaventura Press), which has been nominated for Eisner Awards every year of its existence and won a 2004 Harvey Award. He has extensive experience working in the art world, has been collecting original comic art and illustration art for the past twenty years, and is the author of The Art of Jaime Hernandez/The Secrets of Life and Death (Harry N. Abrams, forthcoming 2009), In the Studio: Visits with Contemporary Cartoonists (Yale University Press, 2006), and co-editor and co-author of Strips, Toons, & Bluesies; Essays in Comics and Culture (Princeton Architectural Press, 2006).

Hignite is one of the most visible chroniclers of comics and their history, having also curated numerous exhibitions on the art form, including Speak: Nine Cartoonists (2006), the subject of a substantial feature on the front page of the New York Times Arts section, and R. Crumb’s Underground, currently touring the country.

Heritage’s next Vintage Comic and Comic Art Signature® auction will be held August 7-8, 2008, in Dallas, Texas. For more information, please visit www.HA.com
