SAVANNAH, GA- Everard and Company is pleased to present their online auction of ‘Fine Art and Antiques From Savannah Estates and Various Owners”. The auction will finish on October 7th at www.iGavel.com.
Featured in the auction is an interesting group of sporting art that was collected in the 1920s. There are two paintings by Samuel Alken (British, 18th/19th century) entitled ‘The Match Race’ and ‘Preparing the Horses’, James Pollard (British, 1792-1867),‘The Greyhound Inn’ and Richard Jones (British, 1767-1840), ‘Coursing’. Also included in this grouping is a painting by George Wright (British, 1860-1942) depicting a coaching scene that was commissioned directly from the artist through his London dealer, Arthur Ackermann & Son, Ltd., in 1926. The lot includes a copy of the original bill of sale, the export declaration with George Wright’s signature, and correspondence between the client and Ackermann & Son regarding the commission.
Other fine art highlights include a Frederick MacMonnies (American, 1863-1937) bronze of Pan of Rohallion, a small David Burliuk (Russian American, 1882-1967) painting of a woman, a Jules Pascin (French, 1885-1930) drawing, a pair of 17th century Italian paintings of battle scenes, a Sally Michel (American, 1902-2003) landscape, and a painting of flowers by folk artist Clementine Hunter (American, 1886-1988).
Furniture offerings include a handsome George III mahogany tall case clock, the works signed ‘Jo’s. Dudds London’, a Continental rectangular center table with pietra dura inset top, a large 18th century English or Irish mahogany and brass peat bucket, and a Baltimore faux rosewood painted hall bench purchased in the 1920’s from Oak Grove plantation, Virginia.
The sale also features a large group of sterling silver ranging from 18th century to 20th century offerings, including Tiffany, Gorham, Christofle and American coin silver. Highlights include six George III sterling silver chargers engraved with armorials, 12 sterling silver chargers, 20th century, and a pair of George III silver plate three light candelabra by Matthew Boulton.
Other decorative art offerings include art glass, majolica, Asian art, and many interesting group lots from local estates.
