Andi Charkow’s November 15 Vintage Clothing & Textile Auction, to be held at the Horsham V.F.W. on Sawmill Lane in Horsham, Pennsylvania, is filled with treasures. With a little under 700 photos on Auctionzip.com, it looks like there is something for everyone, in every price range.
The sale contains a wonderful choice of vintage clothing, ranging from 1770 to the 1980’s. The rarest and oldest item is a Calash Bonnet, circa 1770-1780. This tall, oval-shaped bonnet, entirely hand sewn in olive green silk, has a handwritten signature, “A.B. Washbrun”. The Calash bonnet became popular during the 1760’s and was worn to protect the towered powdered hairstyles fashionable during the 18th century. The bonnets were named “Calash” after the French word “caleche” (meaning carriage) as they resembled the fold down tops of fine carriages.?
Victorian collectors will be happy with the selection of dresses, capes, beadwork etc., plus several very nice beaded pincushions. The standout pieces are a green and cream two-piece dress, in excellent condition, and a dressing gown with fuchsia embroidery.?
There are dresses from the 1880’s to the 1980’s. There will also be a large selection of very wearable clothing from the 1940’s to the 1970’s.?
Another highlight is a great collection of 1960’s and 1970’s dresses -? many never worn -? still with original tags is included in the sale. “With the success of the AMC network series “Mad Men” they are all back in style today,” says Andi Charkow. “The buyers will not only look great, no one will show up (wherever they go) in the same outfit!”
Designers like Hermes, Armani, Oscar de la Renta, Norma Kamali, Ralph Lauren, and Valentino are all represented.
Have a woman in your life who would love a fur coat for the holidays? This auction is for you. In vintage furs there is a great Roaring 1920’s men’s full length Raccoon coat, many mink coats, a beaver jacket, several Persian lamb coats with mink collars, Broadtail jackets, a Fitch jacket, spotted fur, seal coats, jackets, capes, and lesser furs. The highlight in the fur selection is a fabulous newer full-length ranch mink coat made from female skins that is, according to the auctioneer, “to die for”.
Accessories will be offered as well, including 1920’s Whiting & Davis Art Deco mesh purses, beaded bags from the 1940’s and 1950’s, all the way to the present with Lucille De Paris, Ferragomo & Fendi, as well as other great handbags.
From the early bonnet to a hat by Schiaparelli, there will be something in everyone’s price range.
Textiles include monogrammed bed and bath linens that belonged to Grace Whitney Hoff (born 1862 – died 1939) daughter of Detroit millionaire David Whitney, who lived in a Chateau in France. They come with a picture of the Chateau chamber bed for which they were made.?
More highlights are two good hand done quilts, early needlework chair covers, and a lovely pair of appliquÈd summer bedspreads with shams. There is also 19th-century beadwork, paisleys, table linens, and bedspreads too.?
