Vintage photographic equipment sold exceptionally well in Tennants’ Specialist Scientific and Musical Instruments and Camera Sale on 14th February, proving that negative economic news can lead to positive results in the saleroom.
A packed saleroom competed with telephone bidders to push prices to levels far higher than expected by Nick Lambert, the camera specialist.
The top price of the sale £3,600 was secured for a 19th Century Mahogany and Lacquered Brass Biunnial Magic Lantern by J.H.Steward (lot 409), bought by a local collector, together with some slides.
The highlight of the cameras section was a rare Ilford Witness 35mm Camera from 1951 (lot 386), which achieved a hammer price of £3,000. Other high prices realised included A Hasselblad 500C/M SLR Camera Outfit (lot 389), sold for £1,700, a Leica M6 Rangefinder Camera Outfit No.1784409 (Lot 390) sold for £2,200 and a collection of Nikon cameras and lenses, sold for £1,700.
This year is proving to be very buoyant in the saleroom and is a good time to consider selling quality antiques and collectables.
Entries are now being invited for the busy forthcoming sales schedule including next Scientific and Musical Instruments, Cameras and Tools Sale in May 2009.
