Bonhams & Goodman Fundraising Auction

Bonhams & Goodman has announced that two distinguished Australian artists have generously donated art works for the benefit of artists and art lovers. In the forthcoming sale at Bay East on 22 March 2009, two works by Margaret Olley and 63 works by the late sculptor Barbara Tribe are being offered at auction for the express purpose of raising funds for two separate organisations.

margaret-olley.jpgMargaret Olley AC, AO has donated two of her own etchings and all funds raised will go directly to assisting the Maitland Regional Gallery with its current renovations and building works. Olley, a patron of the Gallery, is well known for her philanthropy and has supported and encouraged the gallery with donations since it was established in 2003.

Each of the limited edition etchings, which depict her trademark domestic scenes, is signed and dated by the artist and they are valued from $4,000 and $6,000 respectively.

Also included in the sale are 63 works being sold by The Barbara Tribe Foundation, which was set up under Tribe’s will, after her death in 2000, to further the artist’s desire to aid the development and appreciation of sculpture in Australia. The collection, which is mainly comprised of sculpture employing terracotta, bronze and ceramics, demonstrates not only the artist’s facility with various media, but also the diversity of her subject matter.
