Ritchie Bros Bakersfield Unreserved Equipment Auction

Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers , the world’s largest industrial auctioneer, is conducting the Company’s first public unreserved auction in Bakersfield, California in 16 years on March 27, 2009 starting at 8:00 a.m. The last multi-million dollar unreserved auction Ritchie Bros. held in Bakersfield was in 1993 when the Company sold over 450 items to more than 500 bidders. The upcoming unreserved auction on March 27th will provide local and international bidders with a great opportunity to purchase industrial equipment used in the oil, agricultural, construction, demolition and transportation sectors. Close to 1000 lots will be sold during the unreserved auction and more items will be added to the auction right up to auction day. Each item at the unreserved auction will be sold to the highest bidder, with no minimum bids or reserve prices.

“Coming back to Bakersfield after 16 years and holding another unreserved auction here is exciting for us and is a fantastic opportunity for Ritchie Bros. to service four of our core markets all at once,” said Ken Spicer, Territory Manager, Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers. “We’ve been working hard to assemble a diverse and exceptional package of equipment that represents the oil, transportation, construction, demolition and agricultural markets in the area. Our California consignors are able to sell their items to the global market since bidders participate in our auctions from all around the world. Bakersfield is a great location to hold the auction; our auction site is located on a busy freeway and close to regional agriculture and oil belts. There truly is something for everyone at this auction and we look forward to welcoming bidders to the sale from the local region as well as from further afield.”

The unreserved auction features equipment from over 70 different owners including Bolthouse Farms, Gene Watson Construction, Golden Construction Inc., Pape Kenworth, Cal Lowbed Service and Nix Demolition. Equipment highlights include boom trucks, pipeline equipment, aggregate machinery, compactors, forklifts, hydraulic excavators, crawler tractors, loader backhoes, pavers, water trucks, truck tractors, trailers and more than 70 commercial pickup trucks from major manufacturers such as Ford and Chevrolet. A good selection of agricultural equipment will also be sold during the unreserved auction, including 2WD and 4WD tractors, utility tractors, cultivators, discs, seeders, mowers and swathers.

Golden Construction Inc., a construction and excavating contractor based in Bakersfield has been purchasing equipment through Ritchie Bros. since 1993 and consigning equipment at Ritchie Bros. auctions in Los Angeles and in Las Vegas since 2004. They are selling nine pieces of equipment in the upcoming Bakersfield auction including a wheel loader, hydraulic excavator, two padfoot compactors, two four-gallon water trucks and three loader backhoes.

“Two things about a Ritchie Bros. unreserved auction that stand out are the quality and selection of equipment you have to choose from and the ability of the auction to draw a large crowd of bidders,” says Kenny Shaffer, Vice President of Golden Construction Inc. “Whether you are looking to purchase one or more pieces of equipment, a Ritchie Bros. unreserved auction is the way to go because buyers can usually find what they want for a reasonable price.”
