The countryside south of Lake Billy Chinook has unique scenery and some of the best hunting in the Pacific Northwest. But what it doesn’t have is a current firm market value on which everyone can agree, because land in the area has rarely been placed on the market.
That’s why Ralph De Monte and other family members of the De Monte Family Trust who own approximately 5,512 acres in the area have decided to sell the property at auction, with Albert Burney Auction Company managing the sale.
“Our family has owned this land for more than 45 years, and we’ve never offered it for sale. Much of the surrounding land has been owned by utilities and government agencies, so very little of it has ever gone on the market. As a result, there has been little opportunity for open market factors to establish a true value. We’re going to let the marketplace decide its value,” said De Monte, spokesperson for the family.
The land is being sold in 43 different parcels, ranging from approximately nine acres to more than 800 acres, according to Warren Ward, president of Albert Burney Auction.
“Four of the parcels have views of Lake Billy Chinook, and all of them have excellent views of the surrounding mountain ranges. Some of the larger parcels are farther to the south, in the Black Butte area near Squaw’s Ridge. Our people have really been impressed with the amount of game on the properties,” said Ward.
Bidders will gather at the River Lodge in Bend for the 11 a.m. auction on Saturday, June 27.
