Former NASCAR(r) driver Bobby Allison will be appearing to sign autographs and watch his 1969 Dodge Daytona Racer go up for bid during the Mecum Kissimmee Auction on Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010, at Osceola Heritage Park in Kissimmee, Fla.
Originally owned by Mario Rossi, the historically significant 1969 Dodge Daytona Racer (Lot S135.1) was used as a test car prior to NASCAR’s 1970 engine rule change that required the engine to go from 426 CI to 305 CI. After the change, the Dodge Daytona was used as a test car by Allison at Daytona and Talladega, but was banned before he could compete with it.
Allison, a Winston Cup Series Champion in 1983, has certified the Dodge Daytona Racer as the test car used in the 1970 NASCAR season. With 84 NASCAR Wins from 1966 to 1988, Allison was named one of NASCAR’s 50 Greatest Drivers in 1998.
Featuring a ground-up restoration, the winged test vehicle has competed in 10 Historic Racecar Association events, driven to victory each time by “Flash” Gordon Sprague. The Dodge Daytona Racer is expected to cross the block on Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010, at 2:50 p.m. It will be sold on bill of sale with the original certificate of authenticity signed by Allison.
Mecum’s Kissimmee Auction will be broadcast live on national TV during their popular television series, “Mecum Auto Auction: Muscle Cars & More” on HD Theater – Discovery Communications’ first 24-hour high-definition cable network, offering compelling real-world and motorized content. The event is open to the general public and tickets are available at the door for $10.
