This auction features the C.W. Slagle Firearms Estate Collection to include derringers, palm pistols, powder flasks and other curio type firearms. C.W. Slagle was well known throughout the firearms collecting industry and especially known for his collection of unusual and unique antique and Curio & Relic firearms. Collectors everywhere should take note that this auction is a real opportunity to obtain truly one-of-a-kind pieces.
From the C.W. Slagle collection comes an impressive Morrill, Mosman & Blaire Elgin patent cutlass pistol, serial no. 52 (largest known example). Also part of this unique collection are two scarce factory engraved gold and silver Colt Cloverleaf house model revolvers with pearl grips and a Liege proofed double barrel percussion knife pistol with attractive engraved silver panels. There are more than 600 derringers and curio type weapons in this sale headlined by an extremely rare AM. Sterling marked solid sterling silver Colt second model derringer pistol, one of only four known solid silver Colt derringers, estimated at $50,000 – 90,000. Other impressive examples are an extraordinary Marston superposed three barrel, retractable knife blade deringer exhibition quality engraved and signed by L.D. Nimschke ($30,000 – 50,000) and a rare James Reid new model knuckle duster revolver ($8,500 – 13,000). Henry and Philadelphia derringers will include an extremely rare ivory stocked Henry deringer Philadelphia percussion pistol that is expected to bring $25,000 – 50,000.
This auction also boasts over 650 Colts with excellent percussions, single actions and fine engraved double action revolvers. An exceptional Colt model 1849 pocket revolver with deluxe factory engraving, ivory grips and pipe style case is expected to bring $27,500 – $35,000. Another example is a Colonel Samuel Colt presentation cased and deluxe factory engraved Colt model 1855 sidehammer revolver with extremely rare Charter Oak grips. It is engraved: “Sylvester Bliss/Presented by/Col. Colt/Aug. 1857./Stock of the Charter Oak” and estimated at $20,000 – 40,000. Single action Colt revolvers include an outstanding pre-war Colt dual caliber 44 Russian/S&W special with original matching serialized factory carton and original box and an outstanding D.F.C. inspected U.S. Colt model 1873 cavalry single action revolver each carrying pre-auction estimates of $18,000 – 27,500. An outstanding selection of engraved 1877’s & 1878’s include a magnificent Gustave Young factory engraved, J.P. Lower shipped Colt Model 1878 sheriff model double action revolver with factory letter ($25,000 – 50,000).
