Kaminski Auctions’ April Estates Auction, which took place April 24, 2010, offered a premier selection of items from estates in Massachusetts and beyond.
Strong sales and enthusiastic bidding throughout the auction made the event an unqualified success, with many items selling well above their original estimates. Of particular interest was an important Emille Galle sewing stand. (Prices realized reflect a 15% buyers premium)
The 1878 Emile Galle sewing stand features an extensive marquetry embellished with figural bronze details including florals, insects and turtles. Two bright gold-colored tassels adorn the table’s curved legs and a light patina accents the piece’s bronze elements. An inscription on the table’s locking mechanism reads “Souvenir de l’Exposition de 1878”. The stand, signed by the renowned artist, measures 28.5 inches tall and is in fine condition. Bidders vied for a chance to own this finely crafted piece, driving its final price to $21,850.
