Bonhams has been hosting an auction of important collector and sports cars during the world-renown Monterey Peninsula Car Week since 1998. So it is with great pleasure to once again be preparing for the annual August sale at Quail Lodge, which promises to be better than ever with a new, two-day format.
“The number of cars offered has grown each year as has the interest from buyers and sellers alike. So we are very excited to be expanding this anticipated sale,” says Mark Osborne, head of Bonhams’ U.S. Motoring Department.
Bonhams’ Auction of Exceptional Motorcars & Automobilia is held in conjunction with the famous Quail Motorsports Gathering, which is celebrating its sixth consecutive year and will feature the special coachbuilders of Alfa Romeo, 45 years of Shelby Mustang, and the cars of Nürburgring.
The Quail Gathering takes place on the golf course next to the hotel (which is closed, but the golf course, restaurant and spa remain open), while the Bonhams auction takes place in the tented area directly across the lane.
The schedule for this year’s auction is as follows: Previews will begin Wednesday, August 11, and the sale will take place Thursday and Friday, August 12-13. Please note, a ticket to the Quail Motorsports Gathering is not required for entry into the Bonhams auction.
To date, some impressive collections have been consigned such as the Michael Amalfitano collection of competition Porsches, as well as rare and historically significant cars like the 1930 supercharged Mercedes-Benz SS Tourer and 1908 Thomas Flyer 4-60 Model F Tourer.
