A pair of ‘Rover’ chairs created by Ron Arad for his Covent Garden-based architectural design office/showroom One Off are also to be offered in the sale. Estimated at £5,000 – 7,000, the chairs were one of his first designs for One Off and comprise a scrap yard seat from a Rover 200 car mounted on a frame of kee-klamp scaffolding.
Other highlights include a pair of ‘Embryo’ Chairs designed by Marc Newson for Powerhouse museum, Sydney in 1988, which have been estimated at £4,000 – 6,000 each. The limited edition chair was one of Newson’s earliest designs, made possible by the museum’s commission. A wardrobe and a rosewood tall chest by John Makepeace, privately commissioned from the designer by the current owner, are expected to make £3,000 – 5,000 each.
