Bonhams Auctioneers Makes Three New Appointments to Australian Team

Bonhams this week announced the appointment of three new recruits to its growing team in Australia.

Litsa Veldekis joins Bonhams in Sydney on March 14 as Head of Australian and International Art and hits the ground running with a first sale of Australian Art in August.

James Hendy, Bonhams MD in Australia, says of the new appointment: “I am delighted to have Litsa on board to head our art business. She brings a vast knowledge and understanding of the art market and will be a great asset to the Bonhams team. She starts with us on 14 March and will be consigning for our first major Australian Art sale on the 22 August in Sydney. She will be supported by Alex Clark who has just been appointed as a Specialist in Fine Australian and International Art, giving us real strength in this art market sector.”

Litsa was previously employed by Deutscher-Menzies now “Menzies” for the past seven years. From an art specialist capacity she progressed to Head of Art in 2007, and after heading the Sydney operation was promoted to CEO in January 2009.

She has great expertise in every aspect of the secondary art market and has been involved in all matters relating to fine art, policy, procedure and finance.

Paintings are her passion and she is an accomplished expert in the field of Australian, International and Contemporary Art. She has a Master of Arts degree (Curatorship and Modern Art) from The University of Sydney, as well as a BA in Art History & Theory and Performance Studies.

Litsa enjoys a high profile in the art and auction worlds and has media experience which includes an appearance on episode 7 of The Apprentice with Mark Bouris. She has been a judge for the Power House Art Prize in 2010 and a presenter for the Paddington Art Prize in 2009.

Her work experience includes a year at the Marlene Antico Fine Arts Gallery in Paddington where she was Gallery Manger and Coordinator of the inaugural Padding Art Prize. She also spent a year at the National Gallery of Australia Foundation, as Professional Assistant to the Executive Director.

She is joined at Bonhams by Alex Clark, a specialist in Australian and International Art. Alex began his art career at Christie’s and has been in the auction industry for more than eight years, working in a variety of roles including Sale Room Manager, National Operations Manager and Senior Administrator (art) before his recent promotion to Specialist at Sotheby’s Australia. He has extensive knowledge of Australian art history and a strong interest in contemporary art. He has also had experience at Joel Fine Art and Bonhams and Goodman.
