As the devastating events continue to unfold in Japan, the need for assistance is great. In light of this need, Colin Sheaf, Chairman of Bonhams Asia, says: “At this time of unprecedented personal tragedy in one of the world’s greatest cultures, we think it is appropriate to draw funds from culture of the past to help rebuild Japan’s culture of the future.
Bonhams will be contributing 5% of the collected buyers premium on each item of Japanese art sold at its salerooms this spring, commencing with the March 22nd auction of Fine Japanese Works of Art held in our flagship Madison Avenue gallery during New York Asia Week and continuing with our two May London auctions of Fine Japanese Art and the Edward Wrangham Collection of Japanese Art, Part II” to the Japan Earthquake Relief Fund through Japan Society, New York.
Bonhams is deeply committed to supporting Japanese art and culture and to assisting its citizens in recovering from this devastating event.”
