Sotheby’s London two?day wine sale, featuring An Impressive Private Collection, concluded yesterday with a total of £2,342,953 ($3,819,013), exceeding the pre?sale estimate of £1.7 – 2.2 million. The sum achieved established the third highest total for a Sotheby’s wine sale in London since the new millennium. Both sessions saw competitive bidding on the internet and ‘phones and the sale was 96.7% sold by lot and 98.7% sold by value. A new world auction record for Le Pin 1982 was set when six magnums soared above the pre?sale estimate to bring £80,500 (lot 738).
