Greg Martin Auctions / Heritage Auctions Joins With The NRA To Present Firearms For Freedom Auction

Greg Martin Auctions/Heritage Auctions are joining with the National Rifle Association (NRA) to offer the second “NRA Firearms For Freedom Auction,” beginning Aug. 21, 2011, in Dallas, TX. The special event, featuring donations from NRA members, benefits the NRA, its mission in defense of America’s Second Amendment freedoms, our nation’s shooting and hunting heritage and a variety of NRA programs.

This NRA “Firearms For Freedom” auction is the second in an ongoing series to support the NRA’s efforts. Because of NRA members’ enthusiastic response and generous contributions to the donations program, the summer NRA event features approximately 1,400 firearms, and will be held in two parts, both in Dallas – Part I will be offered on Aug. 21; Part II will be held on Sept. 18.

The diverse offerings at the sales include a wide selection of antique and modern firearms, including target and sporting guns, rifles, shotguns and handguns. Noteworthy antique arms going up for bid in Part I include a Colt cased 1851 Navy revolver and a Colt model 1848 Baby Dragoon revolver. Among the modern lots are the serial Number 1 Sig Sauer 522 Tactical Rifle .22LR three full-size Remington Bronze reproductions, and vintage edged weapons.

Greg Martin, principal of the company bearing his name, which was recently acquired by Heritage Auctions, is a long-time supporter of the NRA.

“We are delighted to be part of NRA fundraising efforts, both at the initial auction earlier this year, and now going forward with Heritage,” he said. “The program has been enthusiastically embraced by NRA members and continues to gain support. Firearms collectors and buyers will be attracted to the wide range of offerings, sure to provide something for all arms aficionados. We are proud to contribute to efforts that safeguard the foundation of America’s freedom.”

Martin noted that 100% of the hammer proceeds from the sale go to benefit the NRA.

According to Clifford Burgess, NRA Gift of Firearms Program Coordinator, NRA “Firearms For Freedom” auctions evolved from idea to fruition over the past two years. Both Greg Martin and Greg Martin Auctions provided suggestions to enhance and facilitate the original concept.

The first NRA “Firearms For Freedom” auction was held in concert with Greg Martin Auctions in January 2011 to coincide with the Las Vegas Antique Arms Show, the International Sporting Arms Show and Invitational Knifemakers Show – all top events for arms & armor enthusiasts. The inaugural sale was an excellent success, paving the way for future events, now expected to occur at least several times a year. “The ‘Firearms For Freedom’ concept has been very well-received by NRA members and supporters,” said Burgess. “The program is proving to have many advantages: donors can be confident that buyers are likely to be fellow collectors and NRA supporters; buyers are excited about the breadth and diversity of selection; and the NRA welcomes the proceeds, which benefit our mission and programs.”

The NRA “Firearms For Freedom” Auction on Sunday, Aug. 21, will be hosted by the Dallas Arms Collectors Association (DACA) in conjunction with the 16th Annual NRA National Gun Collectors Show & Conference in Dallas, TX. The auction begins at 3 p.m. and will take place at Market Hall, 2200 North Stemmons Freeway, Dallas, TX 75207. Free parking is available. The auction Preview will be held on Saturday, Aug. 20 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
