Macallan Master Lalique Collection Headlines Bonhams 2011 Autumn Rarest Single Malt Whisky Auction

Headlining the Hong Kong Bonhams 2011 Autumn Rarest Single Malt Whisky Auction on 24 November, at the Island Shangri-La Hotel, is the Macallan Master Lalique Collection, the only set produced and available in the world.

Enthusiastic bidding is expected for this top lot which consists of the rare Macallan Lalique 50, 55 and 57 year old decanter sets all encased in a custom collection chest. This chest was meticulously crafted involving hundreds of man hours spent flattening and shaping genuine Macallan Sherry Oak Cask wood. The chest was then finished off using antique hardware, a plush protective interior and an engraved copper plaque. The exquisite Lalique crystal decanters were aesthetically crafted by the Masters of Crystal as testament of the brand’s authenticity and heritage in crystal making. Included in the Collection set is a Master Collection certificate signed by Macallan’s Master Whisky Maker Ian Morrison.

The Macallan Master Lalique Collection is the highlight of an immaculate private collection of a Hong Kong collector that is being offered for sale for the first time. Other exceptional Macallans include a complete vertical set of Macallan 18 year from 1954 to 1986, over 80 bottles of Macallan whisky from 1936 to 1986, a bottle of Macallan Red Stripe 1940, and a special bottle of Macallan Royal Marriage.

Apart from Macallan, other offerings include the oldest bottle of Gordon & MacPhail Generations Glenlivet 70 Years Old (Distilled 1940), which was distilled on the 3rd of February 1940 upon the instruction of John Urquhart (grandfather and great grandfather of the current owners of Gordon & MacPhail). The single malt was then filled in a sherry butt and left to mature in warehouse number 6 at the Glenlivet distillery for 70 years, before being bottled in 2010.

Other equally rare and collectible whiskies include a vertical set of Glenfarclas Family Reserve 1968, 1979 and 1982 as well as whiskies from other top distilleries such as Ardbeg, Bowmore, Rosebank, Springbank and Glenmorangie.

Still on the spirits front, the auction also features a selection of fine and old Martell Cordon Bleu and Martell Extra Cognac from the 1970s in their original cartons or Baccarat crystal decanters.

The auction will offer 120 lots estimated at HK$1,600,000.
