Boston, Mass – Skinner, Inc, New England’s only full service auction house, will host a sale of fine jewelry at their Boston gallery on December 6th, 2011. Sale highlights feature a number of beautiful art deco pieces including the cover lot: a Chaumet emerald, ruby and diamond pendant brooch estimated to sell for between $150,000-200,000; important colored stones; and a wide variety of wristwatches to suit a broad range of styles. This comprehensive and stunning sale represents the excellent quality and diversity Skinner offers to the fine jewelry market.
Art Deco Jewelry
A strong sale across the board, Art Deco makes an impressive appearance with lot 750, a fine art deco carved emerald, ruby, and diamond pendant brooch, Chaumet, Paris, set with three large carved emeralds. The approximate total diamond weight is 6.75 cts. and is estimated between $150,000-200,000. The brooch comes from The Lillian S. Timken Collection of Precious Stone Jewelry, Parke-Bernet Galleries, New York, 1960, and was purchased by Frank J. Lauerman, Jr., the former President of the Laureman Bros. department stores based in Marinette, Wisconsin, as a present for his wife, Monica.
Also of note is lot 764, a fine art deco platinum and diamond figural bracelet depicting dragons, retailed by Thomas Kirkpatrick & Co., New York. This piece descended in a prominent old New York family and is estimated at $20,000-30,000.
Important Colored Stones Brighten Sale
Just in time for the holidays, rare colored stones make a bright splash at the sale including lot 763, a Kashmir sapphire ring, weighing approximately 8.40 cts., accompanied by an American Gemological Laboratories (AGL) report stating the sapphire is natural, origin Kashmir. The ring is estimated between $100,000-150,000. Lot 751, a platinum, star Burma ruby and diamond ring weighing approximately 28.00 cts. accompanied by an AGL report stating the ruby is natural, Burma origin. It is estimated between $15,000-20,000. Lot 760, an antique 18kt gold, Colombian emerald and diamond brooch weighing approximately 6.80 cts., accompanied by an AGL report stating the emerald is natural, origin Colombia, is estimated between $25,000-35,000. Lot 225A, an important unmounted, oval-cut yellow sapphire, weighing 149.87 cts., accompanied by an AGL report stating the sapphire is natural, Ceylon origin, estimated at $30,000-40,000. Finally lot 749, an unmounted Colombian emerald weighing 4.21 cts, with an AGL report stating the emerald is natural, origin Colombian, estimated to sell between $55,000-65,000.
