Achieves Highest Sell-Through Rate in the Industry
(Chicago, IL) – Hart Davis Hart capped off another highly successful year with a remarkably strong auction in Chicago on December 10th, realizing $4,263,270 against a pre-sale auction estimate of $3,033,500- $4,534,540. One of the featured consignments, A Selection of Remarkable Burgundy from an East Coast Collector, inspired intense bidding with many prices skyrocketing over the high estimates. Examples include a case of 1980 Musigny, Maison Leroy (est. $5,000-$7,500) which sold for $11,950, and a magnum of 1971 Richebourg, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (est. $3,000-$4,500) which brought $8,365.
The auction-goers who packed the room on Saturday enjoyed the generosity of one of the day’s consignors, who provided selections of Burgundy from magnum including 1997 Clos Vougeot, Domaine Méo-Camuzet. Bidders participated from 36 states and the District of Columbia, as well as Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Macau, Mexico, Netherlands, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, and the United Kingdom.

With these recent results Hart Davis Hart led the US market for the second year in a row, realizing the largest sales volume for traditional live auctions. The seven auctions held by Hart Davis Hart in 2011 brought $37,425,857, buoyed by packed sales rooms, bidder participation from every corner of the globe, and many record-breaking prices. The firm achieved by far the highest sell-through rate in the industry, passing only 9 of 8,970 lots offered. Six of the seven auctions were 100% sold. Highlights of the year included a special auction devoted exclusively to Château Lafite in March. The Lafite Auction, which was 100% sold, featured the largest selection of Lafite ever offered at auction and brought $5.8 million.
