(Chicago, IL) – Hart Davis Hart Wine Co. is incredibly honored to offer The Greatest Drinking Cellar of All Time (lots 1664-1823) in their September 13, 14 & 15 Auction of Finest & Rarest Wines. This collection is extraordinary and one of the most exciting consignments of Burgundy to be offered at HDH. The consignor of the group has been collecting Burgundy since the 1970s and cellaring the wines for drinking. To make room for his collection, the consignor threw away most OWCs and OCs – all the bottles were binned, and he drank from the top of the pile. He assembled the greatest drinking cellar HDH has seen.
With an estimated value of $2.5-3.8 million, the collection is comprised of libraries of DRC, Leflaive, Leroy, Ramonet, Rousseau, and more. Offered first from the cellar are three rare jeroboams of 1971 La Tâche, each having an estimated value of $50,000-75,000. From Maison and Domaine Leroy alone, there are over 400 bottles available to bidders. Highlights of Leroy include two 12-bottle lots of 1985 Chambertin, Maison Leroy (est. $45,000-65,000); four full cases of 1990 Richebourg, Domaine Leroy (est. $40,000-60,000); 12 bottles of 1991 Musigny, Domaine Leroy (est. $60,000-90,000); and 12 bottles of 1991 Chambertin, Domaine Leroy (est. $50,000-75,000). The highlights continue with nearly 50 lots from Armand Rousseau including a full case of 1991 Chambertin (est. $42,000-65,000); 6 magnums of 1991 Chambertin, Clos de Bèze (est. $45,000-65,000); and four 12-bottle lots of 1993 Chambertin (est. $35,000-55,000).
The Greatest Drinking Cellar of All Time is genuinely remarkable – bidders will be hard pressed to find such an extensive and rare collection of top Burgundy again. All wines were removed from a beautiful temperature- and humidity-controlled home cellar.
