Skinner, Inc. to host Discovery auction on April 11 – 12

Skinner, Inc. will host a Discovery auction on April 11th and 12th in its Marlborough gallery. The sale presents an excellent assortment of artwork, with more than 900 pieces on offer. The sale also features furniture and decorative objects that will appeal to both professional decorators and anyone looking for unique home décor.

Studio Paintings, Antique Frames, & Works on Paper
Highlights from this diverse selection of paintings include an oil painting by Marcus A. Waterman (lot 38, estimated between $600 and $800) titled Bretagne Woman on the Dunes. Other fine examples include a 20th century painting titled Abstract of Bathers (lot 282, $300 to $500), Gabriel Goddard’s Personnages dans le Rue (lot 569, $400 to $600), and Musica Antigua by Stanley Bate (lot 350, $2,000 to $3,000). A 20th century watercolor by Rick Fleury titled Truro Marshes (lot 122, $400 to $600) and a Philip N. Yates’ Arts & Crafts gilt carved and painted wooden frame (lot 620, $600 to $800) will also be offered.

Furniture & Decorative Arts
From traditional antiques to more contemporary furnishings, the April Discovery auction will present a breadth of unique items for decorators and collectors alike. Highlights include a Chinese bronze and Champleve floor lamp (lot 1044, $500 to $700), a set of six English classical mahogany dining chairs with upholstered slip-seats (lot 1092, $500 to $700), a pair of 19th century large painted carved wood architectural brackets (lot 1120, $300 to $500), a pair of wrought iron five-light floor torchieres (lot 1170, $300 to $500), a pair of cast brass openwork barrel-form garden seats (lot 1232, $200 to $250), and a Jacobean-style carved walnut console table (lot 1255, $400 to $600).

Previews for the auction will be held on Tuesday, April 10, 2012, 12 p.m.-7 p.m., Wednesday, April 11, 2012, 10 a.m.-6 p.m., and Thursday, April 12, 2012, 9 a.m.-10 a.m.
