The Asian Art department at Bonhams in San Francisco is pleased to announce it will be holding ongoing weekly Wednesday morning consignment events at its 220 San Bruno Avenue gallery, starting April 25, from 9:30-12:30.
The events are being scheduled to meet an increasing demand for Asian art appraisals being felt in San Francisco, according to Dessa Goddard, Vice President and Director of Asian Works of Art at Bonhams. She commented, “We are implementing these weekly public events in response to the great success of our San Francisco and New York sales, and to a demand by the public for a regular weekly venue to meet with the department specialists, with an eye to consignment.”
Specialists covering Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Himalayan and Southeast Asian art will be available to discuss auction estimates for the public for both summer and autumn auctions.
Goddard added of the events, “The Chinese art market has matured and solidified over the last year. While extremely buoyant, it is less speculative. The Japanese and Korean areas have achieved solid results this spring. We have achieved remarkable results across the board in our auctions, and are excited to have this regular opportunity to meet with those interested in consignment.”
Just a sample of the Asian art consignments that have resulted in successful sales after being discovered through Bonhams appraisals include Still Life, in ink and color on paper, by Lin Fengmian (1900-1991) that brought $239,754 and Landscape in Song Dynasty Style, in ink and color on paper that took in $139,212. Both items were sold in Bonhams sale of Snuff Bottles from the Mary and George Bloch Collection: Part III that took place May 25, 2011 in Hong Kong.
