(Delaware, OH) – The week of June 25-29, Garth’s Auctions will be sending CEO Richard “Jeff” Jeffers and Vice-President Andrew Richmond on a roadtrip to the shores of Chautauqua Lake in southwestern New York state to teach courses at the prestigious Chautauqua Institution. Selected by Chautauqua as two of the 300 teachers, experienced in subjects they love, Jeffers and Richmond will be a part of a diverse Special Studies program embraced by over 10,000 lifelong learners who enroll in the classes taught over nine weeks each summer. The historic lakeside village is known as a destination for education and that comes alive each summer with a unique mix of fine and performing arts, lectures, interfaith worship and programs, and recreational activities.
While Garth’s is well known in the Midwest for donating time to conduct lectures, appraisal events, and classes at area historical societies, museums, and more, Garth’s is proud to have been chosen to teach the following courses this season at Chautauqua:
UNIDENTIFIED 19th & 20th CENTURY ARTISTS AND THEIR WORK: Art is subjective and examining an artist’s work evokes a personal reaction but one easily swayed by a lack of confidence. In this course, the class will learn to evaluate and appreciate unknown art based on the merits of the works, not the obvious reputations of well-known artists; revealing an entire world of wonderful and affordable art to be collected. Taught by Jeff Jeffers (CEO and principal auctioneer at Garth’s with 17 years in the antiques/auction field, graduate of The Ohio State University)
REGIONALISM IN EARLY AMERICAN MATERIAL CULTURE: During America’s expansion from East to West emigrating tradespeople and artists produced an array of goods with design characteristics influenced by the regions from which they came as well as where they landed. Using historical objects as windows to the past, the class will take a look at life in early America and examine style and construction differences by region. Taught by Andrew Richmond (VP and auctioneer at Garth’s with 10+ years in the antiques/auction field, received Master of Arts, Early American Culture – Winterthur Museum/Univ. of Delaware).

About Garth’s:
Garth’s Auctions has been a national force in the world of antiques and fine art since its founding in 1954. A dynamic company that has kept pace with an evolving, international industry, Garth’s is now owned by a husband and wife team, Jeff and Amelia Jeffers, who at 40 and 43 are among the country’s youngest owners of a national auction house. The Jeffers and their team have a reputation for integrity and customer service unmatched in the marketplace. Garth’s areas of expertise include, but are not limited to, the sale of single items or entire collections of 18th/19th/20th fine art, furniture, pottery, textiles, jewelry, silver, American Indian, militaria, and books/ephemera. After nearly 17 years into the business, the Jeffers have successfully ushered Garth’s into the 21st century with, among other things, an active Facebook page, online auctions, and digital flipbook catalogs in order to “be green” and to continue reaching a younger clientele.
