Broken Arch Auction Gallery announces multi-estate auction on Jan 12

Around 400 lots of quality merchandise in an eclectic mix of categories will be sold without reserve (everything goes, regardless of price) in an auction slated for Saturday, Jan. 12, by Broken Arch Auction Gallery, starting at 6 p.m. The sale will be held in Broken Arch’s gallery, at 60 Monticello Road in Weaverville, about 10 miles north of Asheville.

Included will be period furniture (much of it finely crafted pieces from the Carolinas), architectural antiques, decorative accessories, cut glass, sterling silver, Wedgwood and more. Worth noting is a collection of more than 40 Cherokee baskets from a former member of the North Carolina House of Representatives. This will be a live auction, with no Internet bidding.

The furniture pieces are expected to generate keen bidder interest. Included will be a circa-1820 Pickens County (S.C.) heart of pine, 16-pane paneled door corner cupboard with original green interior paint, and a circa 1840s walnut slant-top desk with yellow pine secondary and back. The desk, with ogee bracket feet, is all-original, with a Piedmont (N.C.) provenance.

Additional furniture items will feature a circa 1860s walnut two-piece, 12-pane secretary with dovetailed bracket feet, dovetailed case, yellow pine secondary, unusual pediment, original pulls, inlaid key locks and a history traceable to Winston-Salem, N.C.; and a circa-1870 northern Pennsylvania 8-pane cherry corner cupboard with cherry and pine secondary and original finish.

Merchandise from other categories will include a cherry Hadorff baby grand piano with original finish, a circa-1900 16-inch Black Forest stag head, a 5-foot-tall Fall Harvest season statue, garden urns, stained glass pieces and more. A full-color printable catalog will be available online by Wednesday, Jan. 9, at the Broken Arch Auction website: www.brokenarchgallery.com.

Previews will be held on Thursday, Jan. 10, from 1-6; Friday, Jan. 11, from 1-7; and by appointment (for an appointment, call 828-713-2844). A buyer’s premium of 13 percent will be applied to all credit card purchases, or 10 percent for cash and check purchases. More info can be seen at Auctionzip.com (#30067). Weaverville is located off the State Route 1923 exit of I-26.
