Bonhams to auction 12-bottle case of 1975 Chateau Petrus

Bonhams announce it will offer a 12-bottle case of 1975 Château Pétrus (est. $20,000-$30,000) and additional fine selections from the estate of American composer Henry Mancini in its Fine and Rare Wines auction, November 23 in San Francisco, also simulcast in New York and Los Angeles.

Mr. Mancini (1924-1994) has been lauded for his work in entertainment, spanning hundreds of films and concert performances, and more than 90 albums. His scores for “The Pink Panther” and “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” are seminal moments of modern film. Throughout his career, Mr. Mancini won 20 GRAMMY® Awards with 72 nominations, and four Academy Awards® with 18 nominations. He also won a Golden Globe® Award and was nominated for two Emmy® Awards.

Bonhams is pleased to offer wine from his estate. Mr. Mancini only purchased wines on release and stored them perfectly in a home cellar with the intention of enjoying each bottle with family and friends. Though the wines on offer are few in number, they are every bit the world-class performers as the man himself.

The November sale at Bonhams will also feature such highlights as a complete 1985 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti assortment case (est. $35,000-$42,000) on offer from a San Francisco collection that will include numerous full cases of Bordeaux and Burgundy from the 1980s and 1990s. Featured among the Burgundies are famed producers such as Raveneau, Ramonet, Coche-Dury, G. Lignier, Dujac and others. This remarkable collection also features several compete cases from famed Italian producer Gaja, including a case of 1997 Barolo Sperss (est. $3,500-$4,500), as well as numerous California Cabernets, including a bottle of the first California wine to receive a 100 point score from Robert Parker, the 1985 Groth Reserve (est. $400-500).

Also of note will be a collection from the Pacific Northwest which features a wide array of Old and New World stars, including a four-bottle lot of 1999 Rouget Vosne-Romanée, Cros Parantoux (est. $3,200-$4,000); a three-bottle lot of 1999 Bachet Charmes-Chambertin ($1,100-$1,400); and a six-bottle mixed-vintage lot of Harlan Estate ($1,900-$2,500).

There will also be a collection of numerous vintages of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Romanée-St-Vivant, all in original banded cases, priced at varying estimates.
