Fall In Love with 3 February Auctions at Garth’s Auctions

Find the perfect gift for your loved one or fall in love with something for your own decor this February at Garth’s Auctions in Delaware, Ohio. Garth’s will be offering three sales over two weekends with 1500+ lots. With the wide variety of categories and price points, there is sure to be something that tugs at your heartstrings.

Beginning on Friday, February 7th at 9 am with Garth’s monthly Eclectic Auction, the auctioneers will feature country painted furniture, arts & crafts furniture, tall case clocks, sterling silver, coins, art pottery and art glass, brass and copper, stained glass, fine jewelry, costume and loose stones, various artwork (oil paintings, watercolors and prints) and a large array of Asian items. Several highlights include a mid 19th century Audubon Print, printed by Robert Havell (estimate $1,000-$2,000). A bronze candelabra attributed to Jessie Preston also carries a pre-auction estimate of $1,000-$2,000. A striking teak campaign chest stands out with an estimate of $400-$800 and a pair of Apothecary Show Globes, embossed with a patent date of June 10, 1891, have an estimate of $600-$800.

Garth’s auctioneers will continue to entertain bidders on Saturday, February 8th, with a Firearms & Accoutrement auction. Over 400 lots will cross the block beginning at 10 am. The sale will contain Flintlock-Percussion, Civil War, Western, a small but significant group of Nazi pieces, swords, knives, bayonets, modern guns and ammunition. Lot #24, a Maryland 8 gauge, double barrel shotgun, made by Alexander McComas from Baltimore, Maryland has extensive inlays including a dog retrieving ducks on the trigger guard. According to the family, this was known as the “Goose Gun”; it originally belonged to Edward Tilghman Paca of Maryland (1812-1852), grandson of Governor William Paca, a signer of the Declaration of Independence. The gun has descended down thru their family and is expected to sell for $1,500-$2,500. A German, mid 20th century Volkssturmgewehr is expected to draw some serious gun buyer’s attention. This rare gun was manufactured by Gustloff Werke in Suhl’s latter years of WWII for the Germans. This somewhat crude but fully functional gun is an important part of military history and according to the family, this gun was brought back by an ancestor as a souvenir and has remained in the family ever since. The lot includes a silk escape map of Germany and the surrounding countries, an Army Motion Picture coupon book, two boxes of ammunition, and a belt pouch. (Estimate: $25,000-$35,000). A Full Stock Percussion Rifle signed “S. Small, N. Lisbon, (Samuel Small) is expected to sell for $5,000-$7,500. Other items of interest include a 19th century, Persian Helmet and Shield, (estimate: $400-$800) and several Colt Revolvers.

Following the weekend of auctions, Garth’s will conduct a virtual (ONLINE ONLY) auction of Movie Posters & Memorabilia on Friday, February 14th, beginning at 10 am. The sale will include 300+ lots from the Collection of the late Jim Weaver of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Mr. Weaver spent a lifetime cultivating his collection which spans a wide net of interest. The collection covers movie posters from Horror to Romance; music event posters from Little Richard & Elvis to The Rolling Stones; the golden age of television with classics such as I Love Lucy and Leave It To Beaver; and comics representing Mighty Mouse, Dick Tracy, Walt Disney, Mad Magazine and The Incredible Hulk to name a few. The collection is rounded out with a selection of vending machines, novelty cards and more. Several highlights in the popular Horror category include full sheets for the films, “The Deadly Mantis” and “The Astounding She Monster”. Both posters are graphically eye-catching and with pre-auction estimates of a few hundred dollars, they are both sure draw the attention of many bidders. Two movie lobby cards of “The Mummy’s Curse” have a pre-auction estimate: of $200-$400 and group of over 190 Autographs in Binds are sure to be a hit with collectors. A Helen Keller signed Solicitation Letter is a fascinating piece and is expected to sell for $200-$400.
