Over the centuries, a wealth of British and European works of art has found its way to Australian shores. Vendors in Australia now have the opportunity to take advantage of the buoyant London art market by sending art works for sale in Bonhams London salerooms. Vendors can ensure that their works of art are marketed in the most important centers for such material and sold in places where the highest prices are achieved.
Bonhams has had great success sourcing art in New South Wales and Victoria in the past:
The Gust of Wind, a 1931 linocut by Ethel Spowers (Australian,1890-1947) sourced from an Australian collector was offered with estimates of £15,000-£20,000. It sold in London for £122,700 (AU$208,200), over five times its pre-sale estimates, setting a new auction record for the artist.
The Crab Pots, an oil painting by Charles Napier Hemy (British, 1841-1917), was consigned from an Australian Institution. It sold in London for £128,500 (AU$237,500) against estimates of £30,000-£50,000.
