The Apex Postal Auction 131 will close at 2.00pm on Thursday April 24th with 6000 lots to be knocked down. There are the usual selections of world, Commonwealth and GB collections, sets and singles, and a number of lots from the stock of a GB Dealer, the late Mike Holt.
In November 2013 Apex Philatelics concluded the purchase of the entire stock of the late GB dealer, Mike Holt. Much of the stock is to be sold throughout 2014, specifically in the Postal Auctions No 131 and 132, to be held on Thursday 24th April and Thursday 12thJune, and Public Auction 133, to be held on Sunday 27th July. Mike Holt was best known for his extensive knowledge of modern British stamps, yet his first love was the Victorian line engraved issues and it was through his affection for those stamps, the Penny Black foremost amongst them, that he originally became a stamp dealer around 30 years ago. In that time he built up a front line business with a comprehensive stock, specialising in the Machin and regional issues. Sue, his wife, carried on the business for about three years after his passing.
The Apex Postal Auction 131 includes a number of visual errors, mostly imperfs and perf shifts, but also some missing colours and colour shifts, by far the most popular among collectors. In addition, there are myriad missing phosphors, phosphor shifts, some uncoated papers, cylinder and plate blocks, extra 17 pin perf blocks, specialist shades and phosphor screens. The postal sale 132 will have more of the same and most of the booklet stock, and July will include a variety of the higher priced items only.
In amongst the Holt stock is lot 565, a 1912 Royal Cypher 1d deep orange vermilion block of 4, mint, estimated at £500, lot 616, a 1915 DLR 2/6d blackish brown Seahorse, estimated at £600, Lot 1599, a 1998 Christmas 30p, imperforate pair, estimated at £500 and lot 1608, a 2003 Explorers set of 6v with Queen’s head in silver, not gold, u/m, estimated at £1,000 (pictured above). All items from the stock of Mike Holt that are not featured in any of the auctions can be purchased directly from the apex Philatelics website www.apexstamps.com.
The Commonwealth section is greatly enhanced by several 100 fine mint items, recently purchased from a local dealer.
