One lucky person was thrilled to see their collection of first and early edition Ian Fleming ‘James Bond’ books total £2,900 at auction in Lichfield this week, (28th May).
Fourteen hardback editions dating from the late 1950’s and early 1960’s had been consigned, including well-known titles such as ‘Goldfinger’, ‘Octopussy’, ‘Casino Royale’ and so on. All were in impeccable condition complete with dust wrappers. The most valuable of these was the 1960 first edition of ‘For Your Eyes Only’ which totalled £410.
Also included in the sale held at Richard Winterton Auctioneers was Lot 329, another rare green GPO telephone from the 1930’s which totalled £1,080. It had been consigned by a vendor on the south coast who had spotted the result of the previous sale in the press where an exceptionally rare green model with bellbox had been sold for close to £4,000.
Fine wines and spirits formed an integral part of the sale where over sixty Lots of rare and fine wines and spirits were on offer. The section totalled just under £10,000. The highest single price was the £420 bid for Lot 417, a rare malts selection to include a single malt whisky aged 20 years.
Lot 300, an unusual and rare early electric EMG gramophone had been brought into the Lichfield Salerooms on a valuation day. Dating from the 1930’s, it was believed to have been used for public performances. There was much pre-sale interest and four phone bidders poised with one taking it on to total £3,240.
The BBC was once again in attendance with antiques celebrity Tim Wonnacott to film episodes of ‘Bargain Hunt’ with Richard Winterton taking to the rostrum.
In the furniture section, Lot 1615 a Georgian figured walnut bureau bookcase had been discovered languishing in a local property. The mirrored upper section concealed adjustable shelving over a writing surface and drawers. Although with later alterations, its honest state of ‘shabby chic’ attracted great attention resulting in it totalling £4,400.
The next three-day Antiques, Home & Interiors Sale is 24th to 26th June and will include special sections for medals, militaria and oriental works of art. Please telephone 01543 251081 for further information or visit www.richardwinterton.co.uk
