Final Sale of 2014 Will Feature Highly-Sought Burgundy, Classic Bordeaux & Rare New World Wines and is Expected to Achieve an Astounding $4.7-$7.0 Million
(Chicago, IL) – Hart Davis Hart Wine Co., the largest U.S. wine auction house, will wrap up 2014 with a thrilling auction of finest and rarest wines on December 12th and 13th at Chicago’s award-winning TRU restaurant. This exciting two-day sale will consist of over 2,250 lots and is estimated to achieve $4.7-$7.0 million.
The December auction will feature a panoply of old world gems with a strong focus on the wines of Burgundy. Friday’s session will open with a second installment from one of the most impressive Burgundy collections HDH has ever had the honor to represent – “A Superlative Selection of Wine from a Magnificent Long Island Cellar” (lots 1-310). All wines in this group were scrupulously sourced from trusted merchants in Europe and America, and the owner has provided HDH with receipts for virtually every bottle (copies of which are available). Saturday’s session begins with a similarly impressive collection of Burgundian wines from the cellar of one of the world’s most prominent and revered collectors who has been a dear friend of HDH (lots 1129-1285). Both of these impeccable groups feature coveted producers including DRC, Dujac, Leroy, Méo-Camuzet, Mugnier, Roumier, Rousseau, and de Vogüé. They are accompanied by an array of smaller Burgundy consignments that culminate in a spectacular, rare case of 1986 Romanée-Conti in owc (est. $85,000-130,000).
Bidders interested in classic wines from Bordeaux, Champagne, the Rhône Valley, Italy, and Germany will also find plenty of exciting lots in this sale. Highlights include a bottle of 1945 Mouton Rothschild (est. $7,500-11,000), a case of 1997 Barolo Riserva, Monfortino, Giacomo Conterno (12 bs) (est. $4,800-7,500), three 700ml bottles of exceedingly rare 1976 Eltviller Sonnenberg Riesling TBA, Schloss Eltz (est. $3,000-4,500), and a vertical assortment of Krug, Clos du Mesnil 1980, 1985 and 1989 (est. $2,400-3,500). The sale’s extensive offering of new world wines—from Screaming Eagle to Harlan to Penfolds Grange—is also not to be missed!
In addition to the huge assortment of fine and rare wines, this sale will include an impressive selection of Whiskey and Scotch. Any of these spectacular offerings would be a great holiday gift for a whisk(e)y lover, but some of the most enticing lots include Laphroaig 40 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky, Cask Strength (1 700ml b) (est. $2,800-4,200), The Macallan 8 Decades Set, Sir Peter Blake, Single Malt Scotch Whisky, Distillery Bottled (8 50ml miniatures) (est. $8,000-12,000), and 1974 A.H.
