AHLERS & OGLETREE WILL HOLD A DESIGNER COUTURE, JEWELRY & LUXURY GIFTS AUCTION IN ATLANTA, GA

The sale will be held in the firm’s showroom gallery at 715 Miami Circle, in upscale Buckhead.

ATLANTA, Ga. – A special one-day Designer Couture, Jewelry & Luxury Gifts auction is slated for Sunday, November 22nd, by Ahlers & Ogletree, in the firm’s gallery showroom at 715 Miami Circle (Suite 210), in Atlanta’s fashionable Buckhead design district. The auction is open to the public and will begin promptly at 11 a.m. Eastern time, with doors officially opening at 10 a.m.

Van Cleef & Arpels “Jour Nuit” diamond-encrusted, 24-hour automatic wristwatch that first sold in December 2011 for $204,000.
Van Cleef & Arpels “Jour Nuit” diamond-encrusted, 24-hour automatic wristwatch that first sold in December 2011 for $204,000.
The sale will feature vintage and contemporary clothing, accessories, coats and handbags by many renowned designers; estate and high-end costume jewelry; highly desirable hand-woven carpets; and sterling silver, crystal, art glass and other items. It is no coincidence the sale date is a month before Christmas; many of the items are specifically geared toward holiday gift giving.

The jewelry component will be packed with bracelets, necklaces, pendants, rings and watches by names such as Leo Yazzie, Carrera y Carrera, Rolex, Kenneth Jay Lane, Michele Urban, Tiffany & Company, Schiaparelli, Miu Miu, George Jenson, John Hardy, David Yurman, Konstantino, Christian Lacroix, Breitling, Chopard, Bvlgari and others – all high-end and perfect as presents.

Brooches will feature a Tiffany & Company handmade 1930s platinum, 18kt gold, diamond and emerald brooch (or pin) of serpentine bow form, with 72 natural diamonds; and not one but two circa 1775 ladies’ handmade ornate diamond spray brooches (pins) with 184 natural old mine and antique cushion cut diamonds, in a silver setting with rhodium finish (one 5.56-ct., one 6.72-ct.).

Ladies’ watches will include an exquisite Van Cleef & Arpels “Jour Nuit” diamond-encrusted, 24-hour automatic wristwatch that originally sold in December 2011 for $204,000; a circa 2008 Swiss Chopard “Classiques Ovale” diamond-encrusted wristwatch with oval form 24kt white gold case; and a rare Rolex 31mm Oyster Perpetual DateJust watch in 18kt yellow gold (2000).

The vintage and contemporary clothing, accessories, coats and handbags are from such noted designers as Hermes, Christian Dior, Chanel, Gucci, Fendi, Cartier, Givenchy, St. John, Judith Lieber, Kleinberg Sherrill, Salvatore Ferragamo, Valentino, Louis Vuitton and Nancy Gonzalez.

Others include Mark Cross, Prada, Chloe, Hannae Mori, Amanda Wakely, Burberry, Goyard and Emilio Pucci, Miu Miu, Michael Novarese, Akris, Oscar de la Renta, Celine, Yves Saint Laurent, Guy Laroche, Dolce & Gabbana, Courreges, Armani, Missoni, Escada, Donald Pliner and more.

Vintage trunks and suitcases make excellent and thoughtful gifts. Two worth considering are an early 20th century Louis Vuitton designer rectangular Alzer suitcase in signature tan monogram canvas with brass hardware and leather accents; and a circa 1920s Goyard shoe steamer trunk covered in signature chevron canvas with brown leather banding and handles stamped “L.M.”

Just as enchanting would be a vintage French evening or ball gown. Offered will be a stunning Givenchy magenta and red silk chiffon floor-length evening gown (size 8), worn as a backless high-necked halter dress with sheer bodice adorned with ruffles; and a Chanel black silk taffeta sleeveless ball gown with drop waist and V-neck collar and back. Both were made circa 1981.

One item worthy of mention (and consideration for a gift) is a Cartier limited-series platinum finish letter opener with a clock handle, one of only 2,000 produced and originally retailed for $3,000. The knife is of traditional form, with a wide and smooth blade. The clock (which is fully functional), is uniquely presented as a handle, and is similar in appearance to a La Dona watch.

In all, just under 500 lots will come up for bid, both live and online (via LiveAuctioneers.com, Invaluable.com and Bidsquare.com). Phone and absentee bids will also be accepted. Previews will be held Nov. 18-20, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday, Nov. 21, from 10-2. A preview party, with light refreshments, will be held Thursday evening, Nov. 19, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

At the conclusion of the November 22nd auction, Ahlers & Ogletree will then prepare for what could very well be the firm’s best auction ever: a two-day New Year’s event, on the weekend of January 2nd and 3rd, 2016. The Saturday session will feature Modern merchandise, while the Sunday session will be traditional, with fine merchandise from prominent estates and collections.
