Chiswick Auctions is pleased to announce a sale of Ceramics and Glass, taking place on Tuesday 9th February.
Estimate: £1,000-1,500.
Wilhelm Kåge was a Swedish artist and designer most renowned for the unique variety of ceramic forms he created when he founded the Gustavsberg Studio in 1942. Originally employed as an art director by the Gustavsberg porcelain factory in 1917, he went on to produce unique artistic pieces in a variety of forms. He first began experimenting with his innovative ‘Farsta’ line of studio ceramics in the 1920’s using clay sourced from the nearby Farsta Bay area. Pieces from this series are considered the culmination of his artistic production, with the distinctive ‘Terra Spirea’ vases being amongst the most desirable pieces. The vast majority of these vases are plain, so it is particularly unusual to find an example decorated in such a way. Manufactured the year of his death, this vase is likely to be one of the last pieces of this series he ever produced.
