Lot 5 – Eliot, George (1819-1880). Middlemarch. A Study of Provincial Life. Edinburgh and London: William Blackwood and Sons, 1871- [1872]. 8vo. Title page in volume 1, half titles in seven books, with additional half titles and title pages for volume 2, 3 and 4 bound in at the end of volume 8, bound out of sequence (minor occasional spotting). Original green wrappers (wrappers covered in faded red cloth, seven sets of original wrappers present, spines chipped, covers chipped, all in varying condition, adverts and endpapers adhered together. FIRST EDITION, IN ORIGINAL PARTS. (8)

SIGNED BY STOKER “TO ALFRED HARMSWORTH” ON THE FRONT ENDPAPER IN BROWN INK AND DATED 17.7.02″ WITH HARMSWORTH’S BOOKPLATE TO THE FRONT PASTEDOWN.
