The forthcoming Collector’s sale at Richard Winterton Auctioneers will take on a very regal feel, with two signed portraits of HRH Queen Elizabeth and HRH Princess Margaret.
Both portraits were taken and signed by Cecil Beaton, who often photographed members of the Royal Family for official publication. He was one Britain’s leading war photographers and probably best known for his images of the German Blitz.
The first, a portrait of HRH Queen Elizabeth, was taken in 1949, and is of her wearing an evening gown designed by the couturier and official dressmaker to the Queen, Norman Hartnell. It is signed ‘Elizabeth R’.
The portrait of HRH Princess Margaret is dated 1960 and shows her wearing her wedding dress, on the occasion of her marriage to Anthony Armstrong-Jones. This was the first televised Royal Wedding, with over 20 million viewers tuning in. The portrait is signed ‘Margaret’.
Both portraits will be sold in the forthcoming Collector’s sale on 20th January at the Lichfield Salerooms, Crosskeys, Lichfield.
