CHISWICK AUCTIONS is pleased to showcase the second part of a unique collection of 19th century photography and vintage postcards relating to British India and Afghanistan, in particular to the regions of the Punjab, Sind, and the North West Frontier Province and in relation to the Muslims and Sikhs of these regions.
This rare collection came to us, and was found to be a real Aladdin’s Cave, with volumes and titles hidden in dusty bookcases, some for decades, and others which are rarely to be found on the market. Among the pick of the catalogue are albums of Indian postcards, on Lahore, Sind, and the Northwest Frontier Region. There is also a vast selection on the Sind regions, the Kashmir Valleys, and an extensive section devoted to the North West Frontier province and Afghanistan.
In addition to bound books, there are military and travel maps, including early automobile maps of the Punjab, lot no. 49 being a huge map of the division of the Lahore Kingdom, and a sizeable collection of vintage photograph albums. The sale also features a large quantity of vintage photographs of India and Pakistan, covering Lahore, Sind, Afghanistan, Punjab, Delhi, Lucknow, Agra and Indian military photographs, from notable photographers such as Bremner and Bourne & Shepherd.
The library really has something to offer everyone, and we are proud to host this specialist auction, giving a unique opportunity to the public and offering such a large array of Indian and Pakistani books under one sale.
The auction will take place on Wednesday 16th March at 1pm.
