Hart Davis Hart to Offer a Full Barrel of 2016 Chateau Montrose

This incredible lot includes a visit from Montrose’s CEO, Hervé Berland

(Chicago, IL)-Hart Davis Hart Wine Co. is thrilled to be offering a full barrel of 2016 Château Montrose on Saturday, November 4 as a part of this year’s annual Celebration of Bordeaux auction held at Spiaggia. This unique lot will be sold while still maturing in the chai of Château Montrose in Saint Estèphe. The winning bidder will have the ability to format the 225 liters (equal to 25 cases) of Grand Vin in any format from half bottles to Primats. Montrose’s CEO, Hervé Berland will then “deliver” the wines and host an intimate dinner in the winner’s home featuring several vintages of Château Montrose. This is the first time in Château Montrose’s history that a full barrel has been offered at auction; bidders are sure to compete fiercely for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Château Montrose’s muscular wines are born from a terroir of moisture-absorbing clay and an upper layer of gravel that reflects the sun’s rays and prolongs the daily ripening period. Couple this soil composition with a micro-climate that has marginally higher temperatures than the surrounding estates, and you have the makings of a classic wine year in year out. In addition to the estate’s magnificent terroir, Château Montrose has a rich history of wine making. Starting in 1815 with Théodore Dumoulin, Montrose has seen three families of owners over two centuries, each producing exceptional wines. In 2006, the Château was acquired by Martin and Oliver Bouygues. The brothers spent years renovating the estate’s winemaking facilities transforming them into some of the most state-of-the-art and eco-friendly cellars in Bordeaux. Today under the guidance of CEO Hervé Berland, Château Montrose consistently produces First Growth quality wines.

2016 was a truly outstanding year for Château Montrose. The Grand Vin received high scores and praise from every major critic. Wine Advocate awarded the wine 97-99 points and noted “it is a disarmingly and hauntingly beautiful 2016, extremely long and the aftertaste lasting two or three minutes.” The 2016 reflects the exceptional terroir of the estate, with a perfect balance of rich aromas, freshness and powerful tannins. This is a wine that will evolve gracefully over many decades, and the fortunate bidder who wins the lot will have the opportunity to experience its many distinctive stages throughout its long life.
